A project for the future.
Climate change is one of the biggest concerns in our generation and as students who care about our future, we decided to take action.
Our very first project as the MI-NUS team, “Vianu Carbon Footprint” aims to calculate our school’s carbon footprint in the year 2025, as the name implies, so that we can understand where emissions are coming from and then come up with ideas to reduce them where we can.
Firstly, a carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere because of human activities. Although these gases have a beneficial effect, which is to keep the planet warm enough to be habitable, the excess caused by humans leads to global warming, climate change etc.
To complete our project, we will collect data on electricity, water and energy use, estimate transportation emissions from students and staff, and measure the amounts of waste produced. We will do all this with the help of our Physics teacher, Corina Dobrescu, and our Chemistry teacher, Claudia Emilia Anghel. In measuring our total emissions, specialist Edouard Millot, who is part of the Climatosfera organization, has agreed to help us along the way. We are extremely grateful for all of their assistance and support.
Real change starts with dedicated people
We would also like to give thanks to everybody who attended the project’s launching on the 16’th of December 2025, where we presented our team’s purpose, along with our goals for the future and talked a bit about the science behind it all.
This is only the beginning. “Vianu Carbon Footprint” shows our commitment to long-term environmental change and we hope it will inspire others to join us and take similar steps.
